Tony Gollan-trained duo to target Slipper

Top Queensland two-year-olds Ef Troop and Outback Barbie are about to return to trainer Tony Gollan’s stable with Sydney campaigns in mind.

Outback Barbie finished third and Ef Troop fourth in the $2 million Magic Millions Two-Year-Old Classic last month.

Both had little luck in the Classic with Outback Barbie suffering interference and Ef Troop going at a breakneck speed early.

Gollan gave them a couple of weeks off and visited them at the spelling property on Friday.

“I was very pleased with them when I saw them last week,” Gollan said.

“If they are going to Sydney they had to come back into the stable this week. If I continue to be happy with them I will give them the green light for a Sydney trip.”

The two youngsters are from the first crop of Spirit Of Boom who Gollan trained to win two Group One races.

Gollan said the plan was for both to have a two-race campaign in Sydney.

“Ef Troop will run in the Todman Stakes (March 10) and then on to the Golden Slipper two weeks later,” he said.

“Outback Barbie will run in the Reisling on the same day as the Todman and then also on to the Slipper.”

Gollan said he would not take them to Sydney unless he was confident both horses were ready for the trip.

“If I am not happy with either we have the option to ease back and concentrate on the winter carnival,” he said.

Gollan has made no decision on jockeys for either horse in Sydney.

“We will probably go with Sydney jockeys but again we have plenty of options,” Gollan said.

Fullazaboot, second to Sunlight in the Magic Millions Classic, will also head south with trainer Stuart Kendrick eyeing the ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes and Champagne Stakes.
