The Wests Tigers will return to CommBank Stadium – the scene of their incredible one-point victory over the Parramatta Eels – when they take on the South Sydney Rabbitohs this Saturday night. The Tigers showed incredible fight to win what some called an unwinnable game against the Eels, while the Rabbitohs are looking to get their third win in a row after belting the Bulldogs last weekend. The Tigers could face a reshuffle to the starting side as hooker Jake Simpkin looked to suffer a lower leg injury. Meanwhile, the Rabbitohs have named an almost identical side to the one that beat Canterbury.
The NRL betting markets for this one have been fascinating to watch since they’ve opened, as the Tigers have been backed from $5 into as short as $3.50, before balancing out at $4. The result has been Souths’ price drifting from $1.18 out to $1.31, before stabilising around the $1.28 mark. In 38 clashes, South Sydney have won 22 times, including their last two clashes by a total of 20 points.
Jackson Hastings orchestrated the Tigers’ first win of the season by directing his team around the park and kicking incredibly well. He was the catalyst the Tigers needed on the field, and he could prove to be the most important player on the ground again this Saturday. In what’s predicted to be wet and wild weather in Sydney, look for Hastings to stand up again and prove the point of difference for Wests. Their margin would not be large in victory, which means the Tigers winning by 1-12 points ($5 with Marantelli Bet) is incredible value for this match.
Both sides have allowed over 200 points to be scored against them so far this season. While the attacking ability of the Rabbitohs is well documented, what’s yet to be learnt is the full potential of the Tigers with Hastings and halves partner Luke Brooks at the helm. It is highly likely that the total points for this match will exceed 40.5, making the ‘overs’ play a smart multi leg.
Alex Johnston continues to reap the rewards of his position at the end of the Rabbitohs left-edge attack. Johnston has scored four tries and been involved in another three already this season, to go with 23 tackle breaks and six line breaks. It’s expected the Bunnies’ habit of going left will continue, and Johnston will be a very safe play to score at any time in the match, paying $1.68 at Neds.

Key matchup: Daine Laurie vs Blake Taaffe
Daine Laurie was one of the standouts for the Tigers in their win over the Eels, as he recorded one try assist, three tackle breaks and over 100m running. Laurie now lines up against Blake Taaffe, who is highly touted in the Souths system and expected to have a great impact at fullback in the absence of Latrell Mitchell. Taaffe has played alongside halfback Lachlan Ilias a lot in their time leading up to first grade, making their combination incredibly important to the Souths side. The winner of this matchup will likely determine the winner of the match.
