Round 15: Tigers v Titans preview

Saturday’s NRL action for round 15 kicks off with the struggling Wests Tigers hosting an inconsistent Gold Coast Titans outfit at their spiritual home, Leichhardt Oval.

Having lost their last nine matches in a row, the Tigers will be desperate to win this weekend and lift themselves off the bottom of the NRL ladder. The club will also be hopeful of a better performance on the field to show up-and-coming playmaker Lachlan Galvin — who has asked to be released from his contract — that he can have success as a Tiger.

The Titans have won just three matches this season, and their stocks are plummeting after last week’s thumping by the Rabbitohs. However, the club will be hoping a win here can be the first of many to resurrect its season throughout the representative period.

Tigers coach Benji Marshall will be without halves pairing Galvin and Jayden Sullivan due to hand injuries. Aidan Sezer returns from suspension at five-eighth, with captain Apisai Koroisau named at halfback. Brent Naden has been promoted to start at centre, shifting Charlie Staines to the wing and pushing Solomon Alaimalo out of the side.

Further, Tallyn De Silva starts at hooker, Fonua Pole lines up in the second row, and Alex Seyfarth is named on the bench with Solomona Faataape. Marshall may also make a late change to the side, with Adam Doueihi named in the extended reserves to return from a knee injury.

Titans coach Des Hasler regains Phillip Sami (hamstring) in the centres, shifting Beau Fermor back to the second row, Klese Haas to lock, Keenan Palasia back to the bench, and Jacob Alick-Wiencke to the reserves.

Tigers v Titans match predictions

The Gold Coast have won each of their last five clashes with Wests, with four of those coming by 12 points or less. The Titans have also covered the points line in each of their last six matches following a loss. With more winning form on their side this season, back the visitors to win and cover the -4.5 handicap at $1.90 with top NRL bookies.

The Tigers have only recorded 20 points or more in two matches all year, while the Titans have broken the 20-point barrier five times. Each of Wests’ last six home games has been low-scoring affairs, and this looks to be another quiet night for the scorers. Expect less than 49.5 points to be scored, which pays $1.90 with most NRL betting sites.
