Tigers roar back to life with emphatic victory against the Sharks
The Wests Tigers are looking to put an end to their 12-year spell without making it to the finals, achieving a 32-6 victory over the Cronulla Sharks at Leichhardt Oval in round 3 of the NRL Premiership.
The Wests Tigers, who have faced tough times in the past few years, delivered an exceptional performance to clinch their first win of the season.
Under the leadership of coach Benji Marshall and captain Api Koroisau, the Tigers surged ahead to an 18-6 lead by halftime, much to the joy of the crowd of 15,990 fans.
Koroisau showcased his form, motivating his team with solid runs and 42 tackles, the most in the match.
The Tigers continued their dominance in the half, scoring another try and a penalty kick to widen their lead to 26-6.
Despite the Cronulla Sharks scoring first with a Tom Hazelton try in the 13th minute, they were unable to stage a comeback against the Tigers.
The victory was sealed for the Tigers with a try by Jahream Bula, igniting excitement among fans at Leichhardt Oval.
This win represents a breakthrough for both the Tigers and their new head coach, Benji Marshall, in his debut season following disappointing seasons.
“We were quite dissatisfied with our performance last week, and we addressed it throughout this week,” Koroisau commented after the game.
We practiced hard during the preseason, so it was rewarding to see our efforts pay off.
It feels like we’ve been waiting for this moment for a while The energy and excitement from the crowd is truly amazing; words can’t quite capture it.
Whenever we reached the 10 metre line, the cheers and enthusiasm from the fans boosted our spirits.
Looking ahead, the Tigers aim to continue their performance, as they are currently at $3.75 with the top NRL bookmakers against the Parramatta Eels on Easter Monday next week.
