Thunder vs Sixers match preview

The Big Bash League continues this Saturday night with the ‘Sydney Smash’ between the Thunder and Sixers at ENGIE Stadium.

Despite playing at home, the Thunder are slight underdogs at $2 with leading Australian bookies, while the Sixers are at $1.82.

The Thunder got their BBL14 campaign off to a successful start on Tuesday night in Canberra, snatching an unlikely two-wicket win over the Adelaide Strikers. Needing 34 off 12 balls, all-rounder Dan Sams smashed Lloyd Pope for 31 off the 19th over as the men in green clinched the win with two balls to spare. Sam Konstas (56 off 27), Chris Green (3/27) and Lockie Ferguson (3/24) were also standouts.

Don’t expect many changes to the Thunder side for their second game of BBL 2024-25. However, fast bowler Wes Agar could be called up in place of Nathan McAndrew, who struggled with figures of 0/53 and a golden duck against the Strikers.

The Sixers were also successful in their opening game, defeating the Melbourne Renegades by five wickets at the SCG. Set a total of 170 to win, the Sixers top order proved the difference as James Vince (40 off 29), Jack Edwards (37 off 28) and Moises Henriques (53 off 27) all fired.

With one of the most experienced sides in the BBL, top cricket bookmakers are bullish on the Sixers this season, giving them the second-best odds of $4.50 to win the tournament.

Expect some changes for the men in pink, as batsman Daniel Hughes (elbow) and bowler Hayden Kerr (hamstring) were both injured against the Gades. West Indian spinner Akeal Hossain is expected to be available after missing the opener, while the likes of Kurtis Patterson, Jackson Bird and Mitch Perry are also in the mix.

Thunder vs Strikers predictions

While the Sixers may be affected by injury, they still have plenty of quality as they look to win their sixth consecutive game against the Thunder. Their bowling attack is incredibly well-rounded, while the batting lineup is full of domestic and international experience. The Thunder barely got over the line in their opener, so back the Sixers to get the job done.

In one of the most impressive debuts in BBL history, 19-year-old Sam Konstas made the fastest-ever 50 by a Thunder player in the win over the Strikers. Known for his strong start to the Sheffield Shield season, Konstas showed a new dimension to his game, hitting shots to all parts of the ground as he made the most of the field restrictions. While he might not reach the same heights against the quality Sixers bowling attack, back Konstas to score 30 or more runs at $2.50 with major sports betting sites.

Sixers veteran Sean Abbott had a strong start to BBL14, taking 2/34 off his four overs. The 32-year-old seamer loves playing the Thunder, with seven wickets across the last three matchups. He regularly bowls an over in each powerplay and two at the death, so back Abbott to lead the Sixers bowlers at $3.75 with Bet365.
