The Great Boombino to show win no fluke
The Great Boombino, a daughter of top Qld sire Spirit Of Boom (r) faces a big est at Eagle Farm
Trainer Craig Cousins believes the only thing that can stop The Great Boombino from proving her recent huge winning margin was no fluke is the cyclone off Queensland’s coast.
The Great Boombino won a Gold Coast maiden by 10-1/2 lengths at her last start which is the biggest winning margin at a Queensland TAB meeting this season.
Cousins said there was no fluke about the winning margin which could have been even greater.
“The further they went the further she went in front. It was a very strong win against a handy field,” he said.
The Great Boombino is one of three horses by top Queensland sire Spirit Of Boom in the Three-Year-Old Handicap (1600m) at Eagle Farm on Saturday.
While most of the first two crops of Spirit of Boom have been noted sprinters Cousins has no doubts about The Great Boombino at 1600m.
“I think she will run a strong 2000 metres eventually. She has drawn off the track on Saturday but there is a nice long run up the first turn and she should be able to get across with some cover,” he said.

“The only thing worrying me is the cyclone off the coast and if it brings heavy rain she won’t run.”
Cyclone Oma had weakened to a category one on Friday but is still having an impact on the east coast of Queensland and northern NSW.
The Great Boombino is yet another bargain from the first crop of Spirit Of Boom.
“She was a $13,000 buy and this year she would probably have been knocked down for $113,000,” Cousins said.
The Great Boombino is one of two horses owned by Boom Racing syndicates in Saturday’s race with last start Doomben winner Boomtown Lass among the favourites.
Trainer Chris Anderson has high hopes for Boomtown Lass who won an Ipswich maiden by a big margin at her start prior to the Doomben won.
“The Boom Racing boys are really starting to make a name for themselves which is good for everyone in Queensland racing,” Anderson said.
The Paul Butterworth-trained Ready Set Boom is the other horse in the race by Spirit Of Boom.
