The Bopper again trounces rivals at Scone

A normally reticent Kris Lees admits The Bopper looks to be a ready-made racehorse after burning his opponents in the Inglis 2YO Challenge at Scone.

The youngster started an odds-on favourite on Friday after doing what few horses can manage on debut by breaking the 1000m track record at Tamworth.

By Nature Strip’s sire Nicconi, he made a one-act affair of Friday’s $100,000 race, showing surprising pace to cross from a wide draw and dictate from the front, again running slick time.

Even Lees struggled not to be dazzled by The Bopper’s display.

“You’ve got to put it in perspective, it’s a restricted race but he is an impressive horse,” Lees told Sky Thoroughbred Central.

“I didn’t think he would show that gate speed. He has been slow away in both trials and his only race start but Sammy (Clenton) summed it up, she was on the best horse and took that initiative straight away.

“It looked pretty comfortable to watch.”

The Bopper ($1.50 fav) strung the field out and had his rivals off the bit and chasing before the corner, extending his advantage in the straight to coast to a four-length win over Miss Konjiki ($26) with Sea Boss ($61) another 1-1/4 lengths away.
