Tarzan to swing into action again

Trainer Stuart Kendrick believes he has found the key to brilliant but sometimes erratic sprinter Tarzan.

Tarzan showed what he can do when he ran a course record 56.13 seconds to win over 1000 metres at the Sunshine Coast on Sunday.

He beat a good field with the race a metropolitan standard $60,000 sprint rescheduled because of a recent Doomben washout.

Kendrick believes Tarzan can be just as dynamic in the Open Handicap (1050m) at Doomben on Saturday.

“Provided he keeps impressing me up to Saturday he will back up,” Kendrick said.

“He has won at Doomben and been placed there. I think he had unfairly been labelled a hard-to-handle horse.

“But he isn’t. It is just there is only one way to ride him. You can’t try to ride a pretty race because he resents it. You just have to let him run.

“The key to him is to draw a barrier because he can then just get out and go.”

Tarzan has drawn six of 12 on Saturday with Luke Tarrant to ride.
