Swans v Cats R13 match preview
The Sydney Swans will be looking to continue their red-hot form on Sunday afternoon as they host Geelong at the SCG in round 13 of the AFL campaign.
At home, the Swans enter as strong favourites at $1.33 with Bet365, while the Cats offer some value as $3.50 outsiders. The line is set at 19.5 points.
Sydney had a bye in round 12 after securing their seventh consecutive victory the week prior, beating the Western Bulldogs by 14 points at Marvel Stadium. After a close first half, the Swans’ accuracy in front of goal proved the difference, as they kicked nine goals to five in the second half to secure the victory.
With a six-point lead, percentage and a game in hand over the opposition, John Longmire’s men have looked a class above the rest this season. As a result, they are favourites to win the premiership at $3.75 with top AFL bookmakers.
Just one change is expected for the home side this week as key defender Tom McCartin returns from concussion in place of Aaron Francis.
Geelong secured a much-needed victory last Saturday as they broke a four-match losing streak to beat Richmond by 30 points. Despite trailing by as much as 29 points in the first half, the Cats had far too much quality for an injury-depleted side as they kicked 10 goals to three in the second half.
After starting the season 7-0, Chris Scott’s charges have fallen apart in recent weeks. Despite sitting third on the ladder, AFL betting sites are paying $2.10 for the Cats to finish in the top four.
Geelong forward Ollie Henry is in doubt after being subbed out against the Tigers with a hamstring complaint. However, captain Patrick Dangerfield is a chance to return after missing the last five weeks.

Sydney v Geelong AFL predictions
The Swans come into this clash with all the advantage, as they are in-form, at home and coming off the bye. However, they haven’t beaten the Cats in their last three meetings, which include a pair of heavy losses. While this matchup looks close based on ladder positions, Sydney should be far too strong as they cover the handicap of -19.5 at $1.91 with online betting sites.
One of the top Brownlow Medal contenders, Sydney midfielder Isaac Heeney has been a major reason behind the Swans’ dominance in 2024. Despite a move up the field, the 28-year-old is still averaging 1.5 goals per game, often creating a mismatch by dragging his opponent inside 50. With a goal in all but one game this season, back Heeney to continue his excellent form with two or more at $2 with top sports bookmakers.
Geelong small forward Brad Close is having a career-best year in front of goal, splitting the big sticks in every game but one. He averages more goals and disposals against the Swans than any other side, so back Close to kick two or more majors at $3.70 with the best Australian bookies.
