Round 22: Sydney v Collingwood preview
The Sydney Swans will be looking to recover from their recent form slump this Friday night as they host Collingwood at the SCG to kick off round 22 of the 2024 AFL Premiership season.
Last Saturday, it was an embarrassing display from the Swans, who lost to Port Adelaide by 112 points at Adelaide Oval. Conceding the first 71 points, Sydney were beaten in all aspects of the game and walked away with practically no positives to take from the performance.
The Swans had lost just one game up to round 15, but five defeats in the last six weeks have raised major concerns about their premiership credentials. Despite this, they enter this clash as clear favourites at $1.49 with Unibet.
Expect Swans coach John Longmire to wield the axe at selection this week, with key-position trio Dane Rampe, Lewis Melican and Joel Amartey all potential inclusions. Defender Aaron Francis and ruckman Peter Ladhams are likely omissions, while Corey Warner was subbed out in just the second quarter against Port.
Collingwood were far more successful last Saturday night, beating Carlton by three points at the MCG. In Scott Pendlebury’s 400th game, the Magpies were right up for the occasion and produced a critical upset to keep their finals hopes alive.
Collingwood have also struggled in the back half of the season, winning just two of their last six games. Sitting 11th on the AFL ladder, the reigning premiers are paying $9 at Bet365 to make the top eight, while they enter this clash as $2.90 underdogs.
In a major blow, Collingwood star Jordan De Goey has been ruled out for the rest of the season after suffering a hamstring injury against the Blues. Meanwhile, key forward Nathan Krueger has passed concussion protocols and will be in the mix this week.

Swans v Magpies R22 betting predictions
Despite the Swans’ recent poor performances, expect a massive response in front of their home fans. The Magpies have been equally unimpressive in recent weeks and haven’t won outside Melbourne since round four. At $2.05 with AFL bookmakers, back Sydney to win by less than 40 points.
Averaging 28.4 disposals per game, Sydney’s Errol Gulden has had another strong year on the wing. Despite a quiet patch over the last five weeks, the 22-year-old has still collected over 25 disposals on each occasion. Gulden had over 30 touches in each of his past two matches against the Magpies, so back him to hit that mark once again at $2.15 with top AFL betting sites.
Despite having a down year in terms of disposals, Collingwood midfielder Jack Crisp is having his best goalscoring season in over nine years. He has 12 goals this year, including five in his last six games, so back the former Lion to get on the scoreboard at $2.30 with leading Australian bookies.
