Sydney v Adelaide match preview

Sydney will be looking to lock up the minor premiership when they host the Adelaide Crows at the SCG in the final round of the 2024 AFL home-and-away season on Saturday night.

Last Friday, the Swans secured a vital 39-point victory over Essendon at Marvel Stadium. Despite trailing at half-time, it was another excellent second-half showing from John Longmire’s men as they kicked 12 goals to just four.

With consecutive victories for the first time since June, the Swans have practically secured the minor premiership, barring a disaster against the Crows. At $1.36 with Unibet, they are clear favourites for this clash.

Swans star Chad Warner returns after missing the game against the Bombers with a calf concern, while Aaron Francis comes in for the rested Tom McCartin. Corey Warner makes way for his brother.

Adelaide suffered their third loss in the last four weeks on Saturday, as they lost the Showdown to Port Adelaide by 22 points. Although the Crows led at half-time, it was a disappointing second half effort, as they conceded seven of the last nine goals of the match.

Adelaide’s performance was severely hampered after Izak Rankine was knocked out by Dan Houston, with this swinging the momentum of the match. Rankine will miss this clash under the concussion protocol, while Houston has been slapped with a five-match ban.

Sitting 15th on the ladder, 2024 has been a year to forget for Matthew Nicks’ side. It doesn’t get any easier in their last game of the year, with the visitors priced at $3.25 to spoil the party.

The Crows have dropped Josh Rachele and Lachie Gollant, while Mark Keane is out due to personal reasons. Veteran forward Taylor Walker has been named to return from an eye injury, while James Borlase, Billy Dowling and Chayce Jones have earned recalls.

Swans v Crows betting strategy

Looking to head to the AFL finals with momentum, expect the Swans to put on a strong performance in front of their home crowd. They have won the last five clashes between the sides, including an impressive 42-point victory in round 14, so back the Swans to cover the line of 19.5 points at $1.91 with AFL bookmakers.

Sydney midfielder Isaac Heeney was excellent against the Bombers, kicking three goals to take his season tally to 28. The 28-year-old averages more goals against the Crows than any other side and has kicked two or more in each of their past five meetings. Heeney has kicked multiple goals on nine occasions this year and offers excellent value to improve on that record at $2 with top betting sites.

With both Rankine and Rachele expected to miss this weekend, the pressure falls on Adelaide’s Ben Keays to have an impact as a small forward. The former Lion has kicked 33 goals this season, including 16 in his last seven matches. At $2.23 with Unibet, back Keays to continue his good form with two or more goals.
