Sydney Thunder vs Melbourne Renegades match preview

The Sydney Thunder welcome the Melbourne Renegades this Monday night for another exciting Big Bash League contest.

The Thunder secured their second win of the season on Saturday, beating the last-placed Melbourne Stars by 18 runs.

Batting first, the Thunder set a competitive total of 182, led by English import Sam Billings, who added 72 off just 39 balls. With the ball, the Thunder bowlers consistently took wickets, killing all momentum as the Stars collapsed throughout their innings.

The result brings the Sydney side to a record of 2-1 for the season. Their mix of pace and spin in the bowling attack is a key strength, while their batting lineup is one of the most experienced in the BBL.

All-rounder Jason Sangha suffered a bicep injury in the win against the Stars, so expect batsman Matthew Gilkes to take his spot if he can’t get up.

The Renegades were also successful in their last game, beating the Perth Scorchers by two wickets with six balls remaining.

Bowling first, it was an excellent team effort, as they restricted the Scorchers to just 143. With the bat, the international middle order of Tim Seifert (28 off 14), Jacob Bethell (30 off 22) and Laurie Evans (24 off 18) made the difference as they just got home in tough conditions.

The Renegades are also 2-1, but they hold the best net run rate in the competition after crushing the Hurricanes in their other win with 11 overs to spare.

With two teams so evenly matched, it is no surprise to see top cricket bookmakers unable to split the sides, offering odds of $1.91 each way.

Thunder vs Renegades predictions

Given the nature of the Renegades’ two victories, they should have a slight edge in this clash. They have a very strong pace bowling attack while Adam Zampa offers four difficult overs of leg spin. Their explosive top order also has the ability to take the game away very quickly, so back the Renegades at $1.91 with leading online bookmakers.

Coming across from New Zealand, fast bowler Lockie Ferguson has been excellent for the Thunder so far. He leads the side with six wickets, while never going at more than eight an over. His rapid pace will always trouble the opposition, so back him to lead the Thunder bowlers at $3.60 with major sports betting apps.

Leading the BBL for wickets this tournament, fast bowler Tom Rogers has taken three poles in each of his last two games. While lacking express pace, he has an excellent collection of slower balls and often bowls at the most difficult times of the game. At $4.50 with PlayUp, back his good form to continue, leading the Gades bowlers.
