Sydney Thunder vs Brisbane Heat BBL match preview
The Sydney Thunder will be looking to get their BBL 13 campaign off to a hot start on Tuesday night as they take on the Brisbane Heat in Canberra.
Looking for an improved performance this season, the Thunder have recruited star opening batsman Cameron Bancroft in the off-season, who will pair with Englishman Alex Hales up the top of the order.
Top-scorer for the Thunder in BBL 12, Ollie Davies will join Alex Ross and captain Jason Sangha in the middle-order. While youngsters Matthew Gilkes and Blake Nikitaras will also be around the frame.
All-rounders Daniel Sams and Chris Green look set to be dangerous with both bat and ball, while leg-spinner Tanveer Sangha has spent plenty of time around the Australian team lately. The Thunder also recruited Pakistan international Zaman Khan to partner with Nathan McAndrew in the pace attack.
After their clash against the Strikers was washed out on Saturday night, the Heat will be forced to make a few changes to their side. Australian internationals Usman Khawaja and Marnus Labuschagne are leaving the squad, but the Heat are regaining PMs XI players Jimmy Peirson, Matt Renshaw and Nathan McSweeney. This likely means that Max Bryant falls out of the side, while Josh Brown is also a chance at selection.
Sydney Thunder v Brisbane Heat betting tips and strategy
Sydney Thunder to win
Bancroft to score 20+
Michael Neser 2+ wickets
After their impressive win in the opening match, the Heat look dangerous despite losing their Test match stars. An exciting spin battle presents as all four spinners are pushing for Australian selection.
The Thunder will be keen to avenge their finals defeat to the Heat last season and after winning their last four matches in Canberra will be confident in the conditions. At $2 with Bet365 they present great value.
As the star recruit, Bancroft will be keen to get his Thunder career off to a solid start at the top of the order. After finishing as a top-10 run scorer in BBL 12, Bancroft has shown his ability to build a score throughout the innings. Given he will get the advantage of the powerplay conditions, Bancroft should have no trouble getting off the mark, scoring 20 or more runs at $1.80 with top online bookmakers.
Arguably one of the top pace bowlers in Australia, Michael Neser leads this exciting Heat bowling line-up as he takes the new ball and bowls at the death. He took two wickets in the first over of the Heat’s opening match and after taking 26 wickets last season, he is always their most dangerous option with the ball. Expect him to be amongst the wickets once again on Tuesday, taking 2+ wickets at $2.30 with cricket bookmakers.
