Sydney Swans co-captain Callum Mills injured in Mad Monday mishap
The start of the 2024 AFL season for Sydney Swans co-captain Callum Mills is at risk due to shoulder surgery he had following an accident during the team’s Mad Monday celebrations.
According to Channel Seven, Mitch Cleary Mills hurt his shoulder while wrestling with a teammate during the season shenanigans.
The exact timeframe for his recovery remains uncertain.
The surgery was successful, and Mills is currently recovering well.
Charlie Gardiner, Sydney Swans Executive Genereal Manager expressed disappointment about the incident.”Its always disheartening to lose players to injuries during the off-season,” said Gardiner.
“Callum is our captain and an important member of the squad. We are extremely disappointed this injury has occurred.”
Despite this setback, Gardiner emphasised Mills dedication to rehabilitation.
“Callum is equally disappointed, as you can imagine, but he is recovering well and will get to work on his rehabilitation immediately.” Gardiner stated.
This isn’t the first time Mills has encountered an injury off-season.
In 2018, he suffered a foot injury while throwing an American football, which resulted in him missing a portion of that season. Mills, the recipient of the club’s best and fairest award in 2022, has showcased his skills in 155 senior games since making his debut in 2016.
He plays a pivotal role in the Swans midfield, being an asset to the team. Now all eyes are on the Swans as they anxiously await Mills recovery ahead of the commencement of the 2024 season.
If Mills is unable to make a comeback, it would undeniably deal a big blow to their aspirations for securing the 2024 Premiership.
