Sydney Sixers vs Melbourne Stars BBL preview
Boxing Day cricket continues after the Test Match as the Sydney Sixers take on the Melbourne Stars in the first match of a Big Bash League double-header.
The Sydney Sixers will be looking to continue their excellent form after they kept their unbeaten record with a one-run win over the Adelaide Strikers last Friday. Always a contender, the Sixers have depth across the board, highlighted by their leading run-scorer Jordan Silk, who comes in at number five. The spin pairing of Todd Murphy and Steve O’Keefe has been excellent through the middle overs, whilst BBL record wicket-taker Sean Abbott is expected to return. The Sixers have appealed the suspension of English import Tom Curran, but it is unlikely to be overturned.
The Melbourne Stars continued their terrible start to the tournament on Saturday afternoon as they went down to the Sydney Thunder to remain winless this season. Beau Webster was impressive with 59 runs and four wickets but had little help as the side went down comfortably. After being bowled out in every match so far this BBL season, there are major questions surrounding their batting as they face one of the top bowling sides.
Sixers v Stars BBL top tips & odds
Sydney Sixers to win
Sixers top runscorer — Josh Philliepe
Stars top wicket-taker — Usama Mir
Sydney Sixers v Melbourne Stars betting predictions
After their disappointing campaign to date, it won’t get any easier for the Stars as they face the three-time champions at home. The Sixers have won the last nine matches between the two sides and look set to continue their run here. Barring a stellar individual effort from a Stars player, the Sixers have too much quality and should be comfortable winners at -178.57 with Neds.
After a mixed tournament so far, Sixers opener Josh Phillipe will be looking forward to the opportunity of facing the worst bowling attack in the Big Bash. An exciting batsman, Phillipe will be looking to get the Sixers innings off to a hot start. Averaging 23.3 in his three innings, look for Phillipe to score some quick runs as we back him for 20+ runs here for a +300 with Dabble.
With the SCG known for its susceptibility to spin, the Stars will be heavily reliant on Pakistani leg-spinner Usama Mir. Despite a mixed start to the tournament, Mir showed his quality against the Scorchers by taking 1/22 from his four overs. With plenty of T20 experience both internationally and in domestic tournaments, Mir will be looking to frustrate the batsmen through the middle overs. Back Mir as the Stars top wicket-taker at +350 with top online bookmakers.
