Sydney option for Chase The Horizon

Another interstate trip is on the cards for Chase The Horizon with Henry Dwyer looking to send the sprinter to Sydney for the Winter Dash.

The Victorian trainer has the four-year-old nominated for a 1400m-handicap at Flemington on Saturday as well as the Winter Dash (1200m) at Randwick.

“We’ll probably take him to Sydney,” Dwyer said.

“I’ve been wanting to stretch him out to 1400 metres but that race at Flemington looks like it’s going to be too strong, and he does like the wet.

“So I thought 1200 in Sydney on a wet track is sort of like 1300 and he’s a pretty adaptable horse.

“He travelled to Adelaide and won and I don’t see any troubles with travelling to Sydney.”

Chase The Horizon will be running in his third state in consecutive races should he line up at Randwick.

He won a benchmark 75 race over 1200m in Adelaide two starts ago before finishing second to Camdus at Moonee Valley last start.

The Winter Dash has attracted 13 nominations with Chase The Horizon on the 53kg minimum.

Dwyer almost won a Sydney race on Saturday, with Foreign Affair a close second to Test The World at Rosehill.

“We’ll accept tomorrow and see how the barrier draw favours us,” Dwyer said.

The trainer said it was also hard finding a rider with a number of Sydney jockeys heading to Brisbane to ride at the Tattersall’s Tiara meeting.

“We’re trying to work through that because he’ll be on the minimum,” Dwyer said.

“But all is well with the horse, and hopefully we get up there.

“Obviously he hasn’t been that way of going before but he’s a pretty adaptable horse so I don’t think it would worry him too much,” he said.
