Super Cash records successive Rubiton wins
Super Cash has won the Rubiton Stakes for jockey Craig Williams and trainer Andrew Noblet.
First-up specialist Super Cash has continued her affinity with Caulfield, claiming a last-stride win in the Rubiton Stakes.
On Saturday, the Andrew Noblet-trained sprinter followed up last year’s win in the Group Two sprint over 1100m.
Ridden by Craig Williams, Super Cash was backed from $5.50 into $4.60 before scoring a short half-head win over Flamberge ($14) with the $3.90 favourite Merchant Navy a neck away third.
Super Cash is now a six-time winner first-up from seven preparations and Noblet has Group One aspirations for the mare.
Noblet said Super Cash would again be freshened and set for the Sangster Stakes (1200m) at Morphettville in May.
“Bearing in mind her fresh form, we gave her another run last time in but I think we’ll give her a quite time now and get her ready for the Group One in Adelaide,” he said.
Noblet noted a remark by Williams when the jockey saw the five-year-old on the track during the week.
“It’s been around 12 months since Craig last rode her and he commented at trackwork the other day how much she had filled out, but when you look at them every day you don’t notice it as much,” Noblet said.
While Noblet is prepared to forego the Newmarket Handicap at Flemington next month, Aaron Purcell said Group One-winning colt Merchant Navy was right on track after his third placing.
“This will blow the cobwebs out and the four weeks to the Newmarket should be ideal,” Purcell said.
