Adelaide Strikers v Perth Scorchers match preview

The Adelaide Strikers will once again host the traditional New Year’s Eve Big Bash League match when they welcome the Perth Scorchers to the Adelaide Oval on Tuesday night.

Having been gallant in defeat when falling 11 runs short of the 214 set by Hobart, the Adelaide Strikers come into this clash with somewhat decent form, despite losing their past two.

Despite boasting a 1-3 record in BBL14, the Strikers seem close to clicking, with most of their losses looking a chance to go either way at one point or another.

They were in it for most of their chase against the Hurricanes, were beaten off the last ball against the Brisbane Heat, and it took a freakish knock from the Sydney Thunder’s Daniel Sams in their opening match when losing with two balls to spare.

The Perth Scorchers, on the other hand, come to Adelaide with a bit of momentum on their side, having been last-start victors over the Brisbane Heat.

Nick Hobson (47* off 16 balls) steered the Scorchers to a competitive total of 165 before their all-star bowling attack defended the total with relative ease.

The Scorchers do need to turn a poor run of form on the road around though, losing their last three matches away from home.

Despite that, the Socrchers enter the game as $1.84 favourites with top cricket betting sites, whilst the Strikers are narrow outsiders at $1.97 with Neds.

Adelaide Strikers v Perth Scorchers BBL tips

Despite entering this clash with a poor record this year, the Strikers will have some form of confidence behind them having gotten the better of their opponents in their last two clashes. The Strikers are yet to fully get going at the top of the order, with Matt Short, D’Arcy Short and Chris Lynn all threatening to fire but finding a way to get out at crucial times. With a well-skilled bowling attack on their side, the Strikers look a smart play at $1.97 with online bookmakers to topple the strikers on New Year’s Eve.

Ollie Pope has threatened to take away games against the Heat and Hurricanes in his last two innings’, with scores of 34 and 39, respectively. Cricket bookmaker Marantelli Bet has odds of $2.35 available for Pope to score more than 30 once again and looks like value if the English keeper-batsman holds his recent form.

Strangely, the Scorchers are the fancied side when it comes to which side can hit the most sixes. Considering the Strikers have Matt & D’Arcy Short opening the batting, along with Chris Lynn and Ollie Pope, who are all strong leg side players, the fact $2.25 is on offer at Marantelli Bet seems like the wrong price. If one or two of those four blokes get going on Tuesday, no leg side boundary is too big to contain them.
