Storm v Sharks preview
A top-of-the-table clash between the Melbourne Storm and Cronulla Sharks will kick off at AAMI Park to wrap up Super Saturday football for round 10 of the 2024 NRL Premiership.
The Sharks sit atop the NRL ladder after nine matches having only conceded 16 points in their last three wins over the Dragons, Raiders, and Cowboys. Their issue in recent years has been beating the top teams in the competition, so this will be a litmus test for Cronulla.
The Storm sit in second position on the ladder based on points differential after securing a two-point win over the Titans on the Gold Coast last weekend. The hosts have beaten three top-eight sides this season, but can they beat the best to ascend to the summit?
Cronulla Sharks coach Craig Fitzgibbon has made one change, replacing the injured Toby Rudolph (knee) with Royce Hunt returning from a calf injury on the bench.
Storm coach Craig Bellamy has been forced to make several changes following injuries to Ryan Papenhuyzen (ankle), Jahrome Hughes (calf) and Xavier Coates (hamstring). Sualauvi Faalogo starts at fullback, Grant Anderson is named on the wing, Tyran Wishart lines up halfback, and Bronson Garlick fills out the bench.
The Storm were $1.42 favourites with online bookmakers when betting markets opened. However, Melbourne’s injury losses have led to big support for the Sharks, who have shortened from $2.90 into $1.90 for the win.

Storm v Sharks predictions
These two teams come into this clash with the best form in the NRL, with neither losing a match since round three. The last time they met was at AAMI Park in round 15 last year, when the Storm dished out a 44-point drumming. Melbourne have won their last 14 home matches and covered the line in their past five games against the Sharks, but with all the absentees for the hosts, Cronulla at the -2.5 handicap looks like great value ($2.20).
With their star players out, the Storm will be relying on their defensive capabilities to try and stop the Sharks. This should result in a low-scoring affair — something Cronulla have become accustomed to, with seven of their last eight away matches falling below the total points line. Expect a similar scenario in this match, with less than 42.5 points scored ($1.90).
In winning their last five matches, the Storm have also conceded tries to middle forwards on two occasions. At the same time, the Sharks have developed a set-play that has set up Thomas Hazelton to score in each of his last three matches. There is great value on offer for Hazelton cross again on Saturday ($4.25).
