Stella Victoria sets record in Doomben win
Classy mare Stella Victoria took a major step towards fulfilling her potential as a stakes winner with a class-record win at Doomben.
Owners Wilf and Rosemary Mula only just made it from Brisbane airport in time to see Stella Victoria ($1.28) stroll home by 2-3/4 lengths to Our Jamacia ($7) in the Pulman Plate (1350m).
Trainer Rob Heathcote said he would give Stella Victoria one more run in a benchmark race in a fortnight before giving her an ease up for the Brisbane summer carnival.
“The obvious mission is to get black type with her. There are plenty of fillies and mares races over the summer carnival and I think she can also get further than today, maybe, even 2000 metres,” Heathcote said.
Stella Victoria was originally trained by David Payne in Sydney and showed she wasn’t far off stakes class before being sent to Heathcote where she has won three races in a row.
“Rosemary and Wilf flew up from Melbourne and got here just as Jeff (jockey Lloyd) was saddling but they will get plenty more chances to see her win,” Heathcote said.
The Mulas have had many top gallopers including top sprinter Flying Artie.
