Statistics point to Tiyatrolani at Doomben
Classy mare Tiyatrolani has statistics on her side when she returns to racing at Doomben but trainer Tony Gollan isn’t getting carried away with her chances.
Tiyatrolani will be having her first start since June in Saturday’s Open Handicap (1050m).
She has won four times between 1000m and 1100m and has won twice first-up.
At her last first-up run Tiyatrolani beat smart three-year-olds River Racer and Ringo’s A Rockstar in a Listed race at Doomben.
Bred by Eureka Stud, Tiyatrolani will be a valuable broodmare when she retires and Gollan is looking at ways to get more black-type for her.
“Exactly which way she goes this campaign we will have to evaluate after Saturday’s run,” Gollan said.
“The Magic Millions Fillies and Mares race is one way to go but she would have to show us she is up to it at 1200 metres,” Gollan said.
“Tiyatrolani faces a stiffer task first-up this time against open company horses so we won’t get too carried away just yet.
“She did run fourth to Winning Rupert at 1300 metres so that is some type of guide.”
Now retired to stud, Winning Rupert won five of his six starts including the Group Three Vo Rogue.
Gollan has accepted with debutant Ef Troop in the Two-Year-Old Handicap (1050m).
Ef Troop caught the eye when he won a Doomben trial by 8-1/2 lengths on Tuesday morning when he did not appear to be extended.
“Trials and races are different things but he goes OK. We will see how he is later this week before deciding whether to run on Saturday. He can always wait another week,” Gollan said.
Ef Troop, a colt by first season sire Spirit of Boom, is being aimed at the $2 million Magic Millions Classic in January.
