St Kilda v Geelong match preview
Geelong will continue their hunt for a top-four finish on the AFL ladder when they face St Kilda at Marvel Stadium this Saturday in round 23.
Last Sunday, the Saints were impressive in a comfortable 48-point victory over Richmond. Winning every quarter, Ross Lyon’s men were never tested as they secured their third victory in four weeks.
Although they are out of finals contention, the Saints are dangerous and hold the second-best defensive record in the AFL. However, despite the home advantage, come into this clash as $2.65 underdogs with PlayUp.
While there are no forced changes for St Kilda, second-year player Mattaes Phillipou will be in the mix for a return after missing Sunday’s match due to illness. Hugo Garcia and Riley Bonner will also be pushing for a recall after strong performances in the VFL.
Geelong secured one of their most impressive wins of the season last Saturday, beating Fremantle by 11 points on the road. In an excellent all-round performance, the Cats came from four points down at three-quarter-time to overrun the Dockers, kicking three of the last four goals.
With six wins in their last seven matches, Geelong are back in the top four and charging towards the AFL finals. As such, it is no surprise they are firm favourites for this clash at $1.52 with Bet365.
Cats midfielder Tanner Bruhn will miss this week through concussion, opening the door for the likes of Mitch Knevitt and Mitch Hardie after strong displays in the VFL. Veteran forward Gary Rohan is also a chance to return after being a late change last Saturday.

St Kilda v Geelong R23 predictions
Despite their recent resurgence, this is a huge challenge for the Saints. Geelong have won eight of the last 10 matches between the sides and need to keep winning to secure a top-four finish. As both sides have excellent defensive records, back the Cats to win by 39 points or less at $2.10 with top AFL betting sites.
Key forward Tim Membrey has been a big part of St Kilda’s strong form in recent weeks. The 30-year-old has kicked 11 goals in his last four matches, thriving in the absence of Max King. Membrey has kicked multiple goals in five of his last six matches against the Cats, so back him in for two or more at $1.90 with leading online bookmakers.
With multiple goals in each of his last three matches, Geelong small forward Shaun Mannagh has made the most of his late-season recall. The first-year player offers excellent value to continue the trend with two or more goals at $3.10 with BoomBet.
