St Kilda v Brisbane Lions Round 7 preview

St Kilda and Brisbane will both be looking for redemption when they clash at Marvel Stadium this Saturday in Round 7 of the 2025 AFL season.

The Saints were hammered by the Bulldogs in Round 6, going down by 71 points as Marcus Bontempelli and co. ran riot. The Lions, meanwhile, are licking their wounds after Collingwood romped to a 52-point victory at the Gabba — the reigning premiers’ first loss of the season.

After putting together three wins on the trot, the Saint have lost their last two to slide down to 12th on the AFL ladder. Jack Sinclair, Mitch Owens, and Rowan Marshall continue to shoulder the load, while Jack Higgins has been in electric form up forward, but Ross Lyon’s young charges have yet to show they can consistently challenge the better teams.

Brisbane were outworked and outplayed by a clinical Collingwood side and will be desperate to respond. With Zac Bailey and Eric Hipwood building form, Chris Fagan’s men will be aiming to put last week behind them and go full throttle to get back on track.

Saints v Lions R7 team news

St Kilda are expected to receive a significant boost with key defender Dougal Howard in line to play his first game since undergoing shoulder reconstruction. Both Hunter Clark and Jack Carroll are listed as tests and could make their first appearances of the 2025 season if cleared later in the week.

The Saints’ biggest concern remains star forward Max King, who has undergone knee surgery and is sidelined indefinitely, with no clear timeline set for his return to action.

Brisbane are set to regain the exciting Kai Lohmann, who has overcome ankle soreness and is expected to slot back into the Lions’ forward mix.

Outside of that change, the Lions are likely to go in with much the same side as last week, with Keidean Coleman still listed as one or two weeks away from returning.

St Kilda v Brisbane predictions

Zac Bailey looms as a strong value play up forward for Brisbane, having kicked three goals in both Round 4 and Round 5. He also managed that feat in his last outing against the Saints, so take the $4.20 at Picklebet for Bailey to do it again.

Jack Higgins is in red-hot form, booting three or more goals in four of his last five games. With his confidence sky-high, the $2.50 available with top online bookmakers is hard to overlook.

Marcus Windhager is quietly building consistency through the midfield for St Kilda, averaging 21.6 disposals across his last five games. He’s cleared the 20 mark in three of those outings, only falling short by one and two touches in the other two. At $2.18 with Neds, he offers great value to hit the 20-disposal mark once again.
