Spright beats colts in Brian Crowley win
Her trainer keeps raising the bar for Spright and she keeps jumping over it with her Listed win in the Brian Crowley Stakes setting her up for a trip to the Melbourne spring carnival.
Spright ($8.50) came from back in the field to win the 1200m race at Randwick and showed a withering burst of speed to beat Star Of Monsoon ($21).by 2-3/4 lengths.
Like the first two home, Faraway Town ($9.50) came from behind to finish third, another half neck away.
“There’s a race down the straight at Flemington on Oaks day,” Frazer said.
“We will look at that.
“She just seems to be getting better. She has put on 40 kilos and is a hand higher than she was last preparation.”
As a two-year-old, Spright racked up four minor placings including a third in the Group Three Percy Sykes Stakes.
She broke her maiden when she resumed last month at a midweek Rosehill meeting.
The Group Three Red Roses (1100m) is the race Frazer has in mind.
Her jockey Jason Collett was almost lost for words.
“Wow,” he said.
“She’s pretty good.”
Things were not so good for the race favourite, Winx’s younger brother El Divino ($4.20) with Tye Angland saying he still had some learning to do after his seventh.
“It was very disappointing,” Angland said.
“The speed was hot but for him it was his first time with the blinkers on.
“They went quick but he just didn’t relax at all and it showed in the finish.
“He is still quite immature. He is a nice horse but he is just not there yet.”
