F1 Spanish Grand Prix betting preview

The European leg of the 2024 F1 World Championship kicks off this weekend as we head to the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya for the 2024 Spanish Grand Prix.

Practice 1 kicks off at 9:30pm AEST on Friday, June 21, while the race is scheduled at 11pm on Sunday, June 23.

It was a return to winning ways for Red Bull’s Max Verstappen two weeks ago in Canada as he secured his sixth win of the season, saluting ahead of McLaren’s Lando Norris and Mercedes’ George Russell. In the best race of the season so far, rain, safety cars and poorly timed pit-stops meant that all three drivers led the race at different points. But, ultimately, no-one could match the pace of the Red Bull.

As such, Verstappen extended his points tally at the top of the drivers’ standings to 194, leading Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc (138) and Norris (131).

Spanish Grand Prix 2024 odds

As the winner of the last two races held at the track, Verstappen is expected to continue his dominance as the clear favourite. With a podium in four of his last five races, Norris is backed to continue his hot streak, while Leclerc is expected to bounce back from his retirement in Canada.

The Mercedes drivers have looked much quicker since receiving their upgrades, while Red Bull’s Sergio Perez has struggled across the last three races. Look for value in the rest of the field for a points finish.

2024 Spanish Grand Prix betting strategy

With his form this season and at this track, it is hard to see anyone challenging Max Verstappen for the win. With a straight bet offering little value, look to add pole position and fastest lap into the equation. He completed the sweep last year, so back him to do it again at $4 with top online bookmakers.

Coming off an excellent weekend in Canada where he secured pole position and a podium finish, George Russell has shown that the upgraded Mercedes can keep up with McLaren and Ferrari. Returning to a track where he has finished third in each of his last two races, back the Englishman to finish on the podium again at $4.33 with top F1 bookmakers.

Sitting 10th in the drivers’ championship on 19 points, RB’s Yuki Tsunoda has finished top 10 in five of his last seven races. The Japanese driver is a strong qualifier and should be competitive this weekend, as this circuit is known for being difficult to overtake. With the unpredictability of the Aston Martins and Sergio Perez, back Tsunoda for a points finish at $1.71 with top sports betting sites.
