Elvis Smylie took out the 2024 Australian PGA Championship on Sunday, holding off LIV Golf stars Cameron Smith and Marc Leishman to claim his second career title.

With poor weather forcing organisers to shorten the event to three rounds, Smylie turned in a four-under 67 on the final day at Royal Queensland to finish at 14-under.

That put him two shots clear of Smith, who was chasing a fourth Australian PGA title, and three ahead of both Leishman and Anthony Quayle.

It marks a career highlight for 22-year-old Smylie, who claimed his first professional win a month prior at the 2024 WA Open.

Besides the $323,000 winner’s cheque, the victory also earns the Gold Coast native a two-year exemption on the European Tour.

For Smith, it is another frustrating runner-up effort after he fell just short at the NSW Open the previous weekend.

Jason Day managed a tie for eighth place on his first tournament start in Australia since 2017, while Min Woo Lee shot a five-under 66 in the last round to grab a share of 15th.

Cameron Davis wasn’t far off the mark at nine-under, finishing in a tie for sixth with 20-year-old Angel Ayora — the best of the internationals.

Next up is the 2024 Australian Open at the Kington Heath and Victoria golf clubs, commencing on Thursday, November 28.
