Sixers vs Thunder match preview

The Sixers and the Thunder face off in an all-Sydney affair at the SCG this Friday night for a spot in the BBL14 Final.

The Sixers finished second on the Big Bash League ladder but were unable to get the job done in Hobart in Tuesday night, losing to the Hurricanes by 12 runs. Chasing a gettable 173, the Sixers slumped to 3/5 and never really got going.

But as a result of their top-two finish, the Sixers have earned a second chance and the home-field advantage for this clash. Don’t expect many changes to the side as the men in pink chase their fourth BBL title.

On the other hand, the Thunder were successful on Wednesday night, beating the Melbourne Stars by 21 runs. In tough batting conditions, the Thunder were sent in and struggled their way to 135. However, the Thunder bowlers were excellent as they bowled out the Stars for 114 runs in 18 overs.

Pace bowler Nathan McAndrew was a standout, taking 5/16, while the spin trio of Tom Andrews (2/20), Tanveer Sangha (2/31) and Chris Green (1/16) were strong through the middle overs.

With injuries and international duties affecting selection, expect the Thunder to remain unchanged.

Sixers vs Scorchers predictions

Despite the loss on Tuesday night, the Sixers are still favourites heading into this clash. The Thunder have just five recognised batters, including three under 25, while their pace attack is a major concern. On the other hand, the Sixers are full of quality and experience across the lineup, so back them to get to another BBL Final at $1.80 with top cricket bookies.

Leading from the front for the Sixers is captain Moises Henriques. He has played more Big Bash games than any other player and knows what it takes to win the tournament, given he has been involved in all three of the team’s titles. He leads the current Sixers team for runs in BBL14, and after missing out in The Qualifier, back Henriques to return to form with 30 or more runs at $2.10 with leading online bookmakers.

If the Thunder are to win this clash, expect captain David Warner to play a major role. He has the second-most runs in BBL14, often playing the anchor role while others around him play a more aggressive style. With such an inexperienced lineup around him, Warner is the clear candidate to lead the Thunder batsmen at $3.20 with major BBL betting sites.
