The KFC Big Bash continues in Sydney with the Sixers hosting the Melbourne Renegades from the world famous Sydney Cricket Ground.
The Sixers suffered two losses to start BBL 12 but have bounced back with wins over the Hurricanes and Stars at the SCG and will be looking to make this their third win in a row.
For the Renegades, they had a red-hot start to BBL12 with wins over the Heat and Thunder before losing to the Hurricanes in a thrilling match in Hobart.
The Sixers have been led by opener Josh Phillipe and captain Moses Henriques with the bat, but it’s been Hayden Kerr and Sean Abbott with the ball who have been just a couple of the stars defending their small totals.
Playing T20 cricket at the SCG is very different compared to most grounds across the world. Typically, the wickets played on are very even between bat and ball, and the big boundaries make hitting boundaries very difficult. Field settings, fielding and running between the wickets will be crucial for this match.
The Sixers are a side that is evenly balanced with players who can score in boundaries, as well as accumulate runs in the middle of the innings, and take wickets at will. The Sixers love playing at the SCG and are well set to win this match paying $1.62.
The Renegades have used their combination of Akeal Hosein and Mujeeb Ur Rahman to rip through top order batting lines ups to start BBL 12. Should the spin twins of the Renegades have a similar opportunity to take early wickets, Moises Henriques will be brought to the middle to stabilise the innings. Henriques has an incredible technique and footwork to take on the spin bowlers, as well as the fast bowlers, and can bay at different speeds throughout his innings. Should Henriques find himself in the middle to resurrect the Sixers innings, he will go on to be their highest run scorer at $5.
Sean Abbott is one of the most experienced players in this Sixers line up, and his experience with the ball in hand will be vital. Abbott can use the new ball to swing and seam, as well as the old ball with the variations he can use. Abbott will surely be used to target batsmen like Sam Harper, Nic Maddinson and Aaron Finch who have struggled at points to start the season and is an excellent chance of taking 3+ wickets in the match paying $4.50.
Key matchup: Josh Phillipe vs Akeal Hosein
The top order clash between these two players will be incredible to watch unfold, no matter which side bats first. Phillipe is one of the most talented and aggressive young batsmen in Australia and Hosein is an incredibly talented West Indian spinner who has already had incredible success to start his BBL career. Hosein has already taken the scalps of Tim David and Colin Munro, proving he is an elite left arm spin bowler. Phillipe will look to target Hosein early at the SCG to manipulate the field and create scoring opportunities. If Phillipe gets on top of Hosein early, it could be very difficult to recover from.
