Single Gaze to have Caulfield jump-out
Single Gaze’s trainer Nick Olive is looking forward to the Caulfield Cup runner-up’s next campaign.
Kathy O’Hara will make a flying visit from Sydney to Melbourne ride Single Gaze in a Caulfield jump-out ahead of the mare’s return in the C F Orr Stakes.
O’Hara rode at Goulburn on Monday and will return after the gallop on Tuesday morning for the meeting at Gosford later that day.
Trainer Nick Olive said he didn’t expect Single Gaze, runner-up in the Caulfield Cup, to be effective over the 1400 metres of the Orr on February 10 but the race fitted into her autumn campaign.
“They will probably go too fast for her but it’s a starting point,” Olive said.
“She will be on a path to the Australian Cup and then come back to Sydney where the BMW is her main target,”
Single Gaze won a 1000m-barrier trial on her home track at Canberra on January 19 with track rider Billy Owen aboard and travelled to Melbourne last week.
The Olive and O’Hara combination was to the fore at Rosehill on Saturday with promising filly Sizzling Belle who won the 2YO Plate.
Olive is planning an assault on Canberra’s feature race, the Black Opal Stakes, on March 11 before thinking too hard about the Golden Slipper 13 days later.
Single Gaze, the winner of the 2016 Group One Vinery Stud Stakes, finished second in the 2015 Black Opal and was unplaced in the Slipper.
