She Knows back in action with Highway win

Punters can expect to see a lot more of She Knows after the filly returned from a five-week break to win the Highway Handicap at Randwick.

The three-year-old tired to the line in the Saturday race over 1100 metres but held on by a half-neck to beat I Am Capitan, with Attainment one-and-half lengths away third.

Trainer Danny Williams says he probably didn’t need to keep her sidelined for so long, with She Knows running second to Larlabrook in her last start – a Highway Handicap over 1000m at Randwick – in mid-September.

“We turned her out for a fortnight because she gets sore on the feet and the ground got awfully hard,” he said.

“When the rain came I thought, oh gee, maybe I’ve erred on the side of caution here.”

Williams has big plans to put She Knows to work after her win, making up for the time she spent on the bench.

“We’ve got a few nice races coming up for her, so there’s no doubt that she’ll improve on that. Honestly, she’s come here still only 90 per cent wound out,” he said.

“We’ll see how she comes through that … there’s some filly races in Melbourne.

“I’ve always got this view, that those two- and three-year-old’s, you should throw them in the deep end because there’s better opportunities to win black-type races as young horses.”

Jockey Jay Ford said the filly’s fitness would improve with each run and help her into 1200m territory.

“She’s a winner, she’s very game and she tries hard. She’s a little bulldog so that’ll take her a long way,” he said.
