Sharks v Rabbitohs NRL match preview

Cronulla will be looking to bounce back from their recent poor form when they host the Rabbitohs in round 22 of the NRL season on Saturday night.

Last Saturday, the Sharks had an unsuccessful trip to Townsville, going down to the Cowboys by eight points. Despite scoring two tries in each half, the Sharks’ defence struggled en route to their fourth loss in five matches.

After a strong start to the season, Craig Fitzgibbon’s men are now in danger of dropping out of the top four. However, they still enter this as clear favourites at $1.31 with Bet365.

There are plenty of changes for the Sharks this week as William Kennedy, Sam Stonestreet, Royce Hunt and Jack Williams return. Ronaldo Mulitalo, Tom Hazleton and Liam Ison drop out, while Jayden Berrell shifts to 18th man.

The Rabbitohs also went down in round 21, losing to the Raiders by 20 points on the road. After conceding the first three tries of the game, the Bunnies never recovered.

With two defeats from their last three matches, South Sydney have lost any chance of making a late finals push. Playing away from home, they are rank outsiders for this clash at $3.60 with PlayUp.

Skipper Cameron Murray headlines a trio of inclusions for the Rabbitohs. Fletcher Myers makes his debut on the wing, while Richie Kennar returns from concussion protocols to line up in the centres. Alex Johnston, Peter Mamouzelos and Liam Le Blanc are all out.

Cronulla v South Sydney tips & strategy

While both sides enter this clash in underwhelming form, the Sharks have much more to play for with a top-four spot on the line. The return of Kennedy at fullback should give them more stability, while they also hold the home-ground advantage. Having won their past two matches against the Bunnies, back the Sharks to get up by less than 13 points at $3.25 with NRL bookmakers.

Expect plenty of points in this match between two sides that are dynamic in attack but leaky in defence. Cronulla have gone over the total points line in their past two games, while Souths have gone over in three of their last four. At $1.91 with online bookmakers, back this one to go over 49.5 points.

With a try in each of his past four matches, Sharks halfback Braydon Trindall has made the most of Nicho Hynes’ absence. Trindall now has nine tries in 13 games this season and offers excellent value to get over the line once again, paying around $3.20 with Australian bookies.
