The Chris Waller-trained Sexy Eyes has won the Group Three Belle Of The Turf at Gosford.

Sexy Eyes has carried the colours made famous by her stablemate Winx to victory in the Group Three Belle of the Turf at Gosford.

Raced by Winx’s owner Peter Tighe and others, the Chris Waller-trained Sexy Eyes raced just behind the leaders in Friday’s 1600m-race and Jay Ford produced her in time to nab Irithea on the line and win by a short head.

“She deserved that, a stakes win,” Ford told Sky Thoroughbred Racing.

“She’s been a very consistent horse throughout her career.

“She drew well. We held our spot and always travelled well.

“I started to put her into the race coming to the bend because I felt it was going to be a sit and sprint and initially the second horse got away from me but slowly but surely she ground away and got her head in front where it counted.”

The powerful Peter and Paul Snowden stable won the day’s other feature, the Listed Gosford Guineas (1200m) with Military Zone who came from well back to win comfortably.

James McDonald produced Military Zone wide on the track in the run home and he powered to a 1-1/2 length victory over Terminology.

“It was a dynamic win,” McDonald said.

“We sat back and he produced a great turn of foot.

“The Snowdens know how to peak them for the right race.”

Paul Snowden praised McDonald’s ride saying it rated a 10 out of 10.

“I gave him a fair dinkum list and a half before he got on because he’d never ridden him before and he has got his little quirks,” Snowden said.

“He’s always shown good black-type ability and hopefully there’s a little bit more to come for him.”
