Serie A action continues this weekend as we reach the halfway point of the season. Here are our tips and previews for Matchday 19 of the 2023/24 Serie A season:

Bologna vs Genoa preview

Saturday, January 6 – 6:45am AEDT – Stadio Renata Dall’Ara

In the midst of an excellent season, fifth-placed Bologna had their six-match unbeaten streak broken last weekend as they put together their worst performance of the season in a 3-0 loss to Udinese. At risk of tumbling down the table, this weekend they need to be wary of a dangerous Genoa side who have taken points off both Juventus and Inter Milan in the past three weeks. Bologna are unbeaten at home this season and should be confident of bouncing back with a win here.

Inter Milan vs Hellas Verona preview

Saturday, January 6 – 10:30pm AEDT – Stadio Guiseppe Meazza

Allowing Juventus to get back within two points after their 1-1 draw with Genoa last weekend, expect Inter Milan to get back into winning form as they welcome relegation candidate Hellas Verona. A side that has just one win since August, Hellas Verona, should be no match for the quality of Inter Milan, and in particular, Serie A’s top scorer, Lautaro Martinez, who is in the middle of a career-best season.

Frosinone vs Monza preview

Sunday, January 7 – 1:00am AEDT – Stadio Benito Stirpe

After holding Napoli to a 0-0 draw last weekend, Monza now has the chance to jump into the top half of the table as they face the struggling Frosinone. One of the worst defences in Serie A, Frosinone are winless in their last five and are at risk of falling into a relegation fight. However, they have scored in all but one of their home matches this season, so look for both teams to score here.

Lecce vs Cagliari preview

Sunday, January 7 – 4:00am AEDT – Stadio Communale Via del Mare

Given a tough draw over the past two weeks, Lecce will be looking to get back on the scoresheet as they host relegation contender Cagliari. With just two away points all season, Cagliari should struggle against a Lecce side that has lost just twice at home. Although Lecce hasn’t kept a clean sheet in their past 14 matches, they should still be too strong here.

Sassuolo vs Fiorentina preview

Sunday, January 7 – 6:45am AEDT – MAPEI Stadium

Into the top four for the first time this season, Fiorentina are one of the form sides of the Serie A on a three-match winning streak and have conceded just one goal in their past five matches. They face Sassuolo, who are in terrible form with just one win from their past 12 Serie A matches. Playing away, Fiorentina offers good value for the win with the leading betting sites.

Empoli vs AC Milan preview

Sunday, January 7 – 10:30pm AEDT – Stadio Carlo Castellani

Sitting 19th on the ladder with the worst attack in Europe, it won’t get much easier for Empoli this weekend as they welcome AC Milan. Sat in third, AC Milan are undefeated in their last five in all competitions and are the second-highest scoring team in Serie A. With AC Milan expected to dominate possession, look for veteran striker Olivier Giroud to add to his team-high eight-goal tally for the season.

Torino vs Napoli preview

Monday, January 8 – 1:00am AEDT – Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino

After dropping points in their last two matches, Napoli have tumbled down the standings to sit eighth. They face Torino this weekend, who sit just four points behind them but have scored 13 fewer goals this season. Napoli have been held goalless in their last three matches, and while they are favourites with the top soccer bookmakers, Torino will be confident of an upset as they are undefeated in their past four at home. Without star striker Victor Osimhen due to national commitments, we aren’t expecting many goals in this one.

Udinese vs Lazio preview

Monday, January 8 – 1:00am AEDT – Bluenergy Stadium

Following their shock win over in-form Bologna last weekend, the Udinese have climbed out of the relegation zone. The side with the most draws in Europe so far this season has regularly conceded late equalisers as they struggle to close out games. Lazio have won their last two matches as they look to recover from their horrible start to the season. Lazio have struggled away this season, and coming up against a Udinese side that is unbeaten in their last five at home, look for them to drop points here.

Salernitana vs Juventus preview

Monday, January 8 – 4:00am AEDT – Stadio Arechi

After gaining ground on Inter Milan last weekend, Juventus are back within a game of first place. Coming up against the 20th-placed Salernitana this weekend, expect Juventus to keep winning here. After returning from injury last weekend with a short stint off the bench, star forward Federico Chiesa is expected to return to the starting line-up and should be confident of getting back on the scoresheet against the worst defence in Serie A

Roma vs Atalanta preview

Monday, January 8 – 6:45am AEDT – Stadio Olimpico

The final match of the weekend shapes as the best as the sixth-placed Atalanta travel to face the seventh-placed Roma. Roma have been excellent at home so far this season, as they are undefeated in their last 11 home matches. But Atalanta will be confident in their hopes after scoring 12 goals in their past five. Both ranked in the top four highest scoring teams in Serie A this season, expect this match to be a shootout with goals at both ends of the field.
