The Manly Sea Eagles will host the Gold Coast Titans in Round 6 of the NRL Premiership, and it promises to be a hell of a way to spend Easter Saturday.

Manly proved in their 30-6 loss against Newcastle they can find a way to stay afloat without Tom Trbojevic, while the Gold Coast must be getting frustrated at having spurts of brilliance negated by their inabilities to go for the kill.

The Sea Eagles will be going for their fourth win on the trot and will be fresh of a nine-day turnaround following a surprising 24-point win away from home.

The boot of Daly Cherry-Evans proved to be a big factor in that game, keeping his team in decent field position with his long kicks and allowing them to grind away before the short game set up point scoring opportunities.

Their win wasn’t about trying to play with brilliance last week, because without Trbojevic at fullback they aren’t going to blow teams off the park. He is the straw that stirs the drink in that regard, but they did show a blueprint to getting wins in his absence, which is gritty defence and earning repeat sets.

One team who does not have the want or desire to defend their goal line for multiple sets is the Gold Coast Titans, so you’d have to think if Manly can present that same performance, they’ll run the score up late, bringing the 13+ margin into the frame at around $2.90 with online bookies.

Jason Saab blew a golden chance to be the first tryscorer in Round 5, but he is still just $8 to get the first for the game against the Titans. Their left edge has been problematic for several seasons in trying to stop anyone, so Saab at that price is still not a bad way to go.

Tolutau Koula at $14 on the other edge is another punters will be drawn to, but the one to get on is Cherry-Evans to score a try at any time for a cool $3.50 with BetOnline. Titans fans will hate to read that, but you might as well put him in your multis and get a decent collect.

Trying to make sense of the Gold Coast Titans is like solving a murder mystery without a body. They’ve won two games by a combined margin of four points, coughed up a 22-point lead and lost twice to Parramatta in entertaining fashion.

If there is one team that loves to lose pretty, it’s the Titans, and that will bring no comfort to their fans.

While they did produce upset wins in 2018 and 2020 when they travelled to Sydney to take on Manly, this one feels like it could be beyond their reach. Even if Manly won by 24 last week, it was an ugly win because of how it was set up. The last time a Titans side had a tough win was… when? Their most one-eyed fan will point out the Tigers game, but that win felt more like someone had to fall over the line in the worst game in NRL history, not a win where they eked out a close result against a high-quality opponent.

David Fifita feels a little too short at $2.88 to boost the value of any tryscorer multis, so look to the other side of the field for Beau Fermor at $4.50. Haumole Olakau’atu has had some defensive issues in the opening weeks of the season, and Fermor is a handful when he gets a bit of space on his opposite number’s outside shoulder. The +5.5 line also looks too small at this point, and punters should avoid unless it moved out to +8.5.
