Sea Eagles v Roosters NRL R18 match preview

Round 18 of the 2023 NRL Premiership wraps up at Brookvale Oval on Sunday afternoon with an interesting clash between the Manly Sea Eagles and Sydney Roosters – two big clubs looking to climb into the finals places.

A single point separates these two sides on the NRL ladder, with the Tricolours sitting one spot higher in 12th, yet both enter this week within seven points of the league-leading Panthers.

Manly are one of the tougher teams to get a read on this season, mixing impressive wins – including a 58-18 demolition of the Dolphins in round 15 – with some disappointing defeats.

Coming off losses on the road against the Eels (34-4) and Storm (24-6), the Sea Eagles regain Jason Saab on the wing, Brad Parker in the centres, Kelma Tuilagi in the second row, Jake Trbojevic at lock, and Ben Trbojevic on the bench.

The Roosters lose Egan Butcher (concussion) and Angus Crichton (knee) for this one, while Jake Turpin has been named despite copping a rib injury in last week’s loss to Canberra.

On the plus side, winger Joseph-Aukuso Suaalii returns from suspension, Nathan Brown and Naufahu Whyte slot into the back row, and Siua Wong and Fletcher Baker come onto the interchange.

Sea Eagles v Roosters betting predictions

The Sydney Roosters may be higher on the ladder, yet they are the lowest-scoring team in the NRL this season by average points per game (16.4). Heading to the Northern Beaches to face a capable Manly side with some big ins, this looks like a win for the home team at $1.70.

One of those big ins is Jason Saab, who will be the focal point of the Manly attack with Tom Trbojevic out of the side and Reuben Garrick standing in at fullback. The $1.98 in the anytime tryscorer market is decent value for a bloke who has scored six times in 10 appearances this year.
