Manly Sea Eagles v Penrith Panthers match preview
Round 24 of the 2023 NRL Premiership kicks off on Thursday night with the Manly Sea Eagles hosting the Penrith Panthers at 4 Pines Park. The home side is fighting to secure a spot in the top eight on the NRL ladder, while the visitors are on the hunt for more minor premiership success.
Sea Eagles coach Anthony Seibold has been forced to replace Matthew Lodge (knee) with Sean Keppie in the starting lineup. Ben Trbojevic is named to start in the second row, which pushes Kelma Tuilagi back to the interchange bench.
Penrith Panthers coach Ivan Cleary has named an unchanged line-up following his side’s victory over the Storm in Penrith last weekend.
The Sea Eagles sit in 11th position on the NRL ladder and are just one point outside of the top eight. However, the injuries are continuing to pile up, and Manly’s squad depth will face the biggest test in rugby league when they take on the Panthers this week.
The visitors are on a six-game winning streak, and there are no signs of the defending champions slowing down. Back the Panthers to cover the -19.5 line at $1.82 with top NRL bookmakers.
With the Manly Sea Eagles’ lack of quality middle-forwards, there is plenty of value on offer for Penrith in the anytime tryscorer markets. Moses Leota has scored two tries this season, and with the Panthers expected to spend long periods attacking the Sea Eagles’ try line from close range, the Kiwi prop is a good bet to barge over and score at some stage during the match ($8).
The Panthers have shown on multiple occasions this season they are capable of racking up big scores, particularly against sides that sit outside the top eight of the NRL ladder. As the defending premiers edge closer to the NRL finals, they will ramp up their intensity of play throughout the 80 minutes, which should result in more than 43.5 points scored in this match ($1.81).
Key Matchup: Daly Cherry-Evans v Nathan Cleary

Halfback | Position | Halfback |
301 | Games | 152 |
83 | Tries | 52 |
These Kangaroo teammates and State of Origin enemies are the two best halfbacks in the NRL. Daly Cherry-Evans’ recent kicking and running game has him in some of the best form of his career. These aspects of his game will be tested immensely by Nathan Cleary and the Panthers, who will take away any time and momentum the Sea Eagles captain has. Without that time and space, Cherry-Evans will struggle to lift his side towards an upset win at home.
