Sea Eagles v Dragons match preview
The 2024 NRL Premiership continues this Sunday afternoon at 4 Pines Park, where the Sea Eagles will host the Dragons in an exciting clash with a top-eight spot on the line.
At home, the Sea Eagles enter this clash as favourites at $1.52 with Bet365, while the Dragons are at $2.60 with BoomBet. The line is set at 5.5 points.
Last Sunday, Manly’s poor run of form continued as they fell by 10 points to the Penrith Panthers. Despite winger Tommy Talau scoring four tries, the Sea Eagles were no match for the defending premiers and conceded three tries in each half.
With four losses from their past five games, the Sea Eagles have tumbled down the ladder to 11th spot. But top NRL bookmakers aren’t worried, as they have favourable odds of $1.91 to make the top eight.
Star second-rower Haumole Olakau’atu has been cleared to play despite suffering a calf injury last week. The suspended Josh Aloiai is the only forced change for Manly, with Jake Bullemor returning in his place.
The Dragons continued their recent run of success in round 14, securing their biggest win of the season as they beat the Wests Tigers by 42 points. After conceding the first two tries of the match, it was all one-way traffic for the Dragons. Star winger Zac Lomax was particularly impressive with three tries, nine conversions and a penalty goal to set an all-time club record for most points in a game.
Winning three of their last four matches, the Dragons have worked their way up to ninth on the ladder, sitting just outside the top eight on points differential. Even so, top rugby league bookies have them at long odds of $5 to make the finals.
St George Illawarra coach Shane Flanagan has named unchanged side this week, but don’t be surprised if second-rower Luciano Leilua shifts to the bench — as was the case against the Tigers.

Sea Eagles v Dragons predictions
Coming into this clash as favourites at home, the pressure is on the Sea Eagles to stop their slide down the ladder. However, the Dragons won the reverse fixture in round four and enter this clash with far superior form. This match looks ripe for an upset, so back the Dragons at the value odds of $2.60 with BoomBet.
With the highest total points line of the round at 50.5, it’s clear that NRL bookies expect this to be a high-scoring affair. The Sea Eagles have gone over the total points line in four of their last five matches, while the Dragons were able to clear the line themselves in their 56-point showing last week. Both sides are stacked with attacking talent, so back the over at $1.91 with online bookmakers.
Second in the Dragons try-scoring charts for the season, fullback Tyrell Sloan has been a key reason behind their rise up the ladder. With a try or try assist in all but two games in 2024, he is consistently a danger around the try line. He scored a double when these sides played in round four, so back the 22-year-old to get over once again at $2.50 with top NRL betting sites.
