Scorchers v Hurricanes BBL match preview

Match nine of BBL13 will be the first home game for the Perth Scorchers when they host the Hobart Hurricanes at Optus Stadium this Wednesday.

The Hurricanes will be hoping for improved performances from middle-order batters Sam Hain, Tim David and Corey Anderson after they combined for just 21 runs in the loss to the Sydney Sixers last week. Fast bowler Riley Meredith could not complete his second over of the match after suffering a side strain, but he has since returned to Tasmanian first-grade cricket and will be expected to take his place for the Hurricanes on Wednesday.

The Scorchers opened their campaign with an easy seven-wicket win against the Melbourne Stars at the MCG, while their follow-up clash with the Renegades in Geelong was called off due to unsafe playing conditions. There are no changes expected for Perth’s clash with the Hurricanes.

Scorchers v Hurricanes match predictions

The Hobart Hurricanes come into this match having lost each of their last nine away matches in the Big Bash League. The Scorchers side has changed slightly from the XI that won BBL12, and without sacrificing any quality. The Scorchers are a near certainty to win their first home game of the season at -188.68.

There are few batters who enjoy the conditions at Perth Stadium more than Ashton Turner. That was evident in last year’s BBL playoffs, with the Scorchers captain belting 84 in the Qualifier and a vital 53 in the Final. At +650 with Bet365, Turner is an excellent value bet to be the Scorchers leading runscorer.

In 63 bowling innings for the Scorchers, fast bowler Jhye Richardson has already chalked up 90 wickets at a strike rate of 15.43. Having taken a treble against the Hurricanes a year ago, +300 is a fantastic price for Richardson to take three or more wickets again on Wednesday.

Corey Anderson was hardly explosive in his debut for the Hurricanes at Launceston, but the pace and bounce of the Perth wicket will better suit the experienced New Zealander. At +1200 with online bookmakers, Anderson is a solid roughie in the top runscorer betting.
