RV chief steward Terry Bailey resigns

Victoria’s chief steward Terry Bailey has resigned to take up the equivalent position in Singapore.

Bailey, who has been Racing Victoria’s chairman of stewards for the past decade will finish on July 11 after months of speculation he was going to Singapore.

The chief steward in that jurisdiction, Peter Chadwick, will return to Australia to become boss of the stewards panel in Queensland, replacing Allan Reardon who finishes at the end of this season..

“Terry has given tremendous service to Racing Victoria for more than a decade and he has our support and best wishes as he embarks on the exciting next chapter of his career abroad,” Thompson said.

“Terry is highly respected for his unwavering focus on administering the Rules of Racing and ensuring that all participants and customers can compete on a level playing field.”

Thompson said a search for Bailey’s replacement would begin under the guidance of RV executive general manager – Integrity Services, Jamie Stier.

During his tenure Bailey has been involved in a long-running and at times personal, case involving controversial banned jockey Danny Nikolic and has overseen the cobalt case involving trainers Danny O’Brien and Mark Kavanagh after which they were found not guilty.

More recently he has headed the Aquanita race day treatments scandal which has resulted in the life-time disqualification of multiple Group One-winning trainer Robert Smerdon.
