Rudy to chase Magic Millions wild card
Tough gelding Rudy is likely to chase a wild card into the Magic Millions series when he resumes in the next few weeks.
Rudy became one of the few Queensland-trained horses to pass $1 million prize money when he won the Group Three Tattersall’s Cup at his most recent start in June.
The gelding has campaigned in Sydney and Melbourne earlier in his career but trainer Helen Page has elected to set him for the Queensland summer.
Page said Rudy was back in work and progressing nicely for his comeback run either later this month or in early November.
“There are a few races around for him in the summer such as the Recognition Stakes and Bernborough Stakes,” Page said.
“Rudy is not eligible for the Magic Millions because he was bred by his owners. But there is a race called the Shoot Out Quality which is a wild card race for the Magic Millions.”
“If he could win it and get into the Magic Millions series there are a couple of races there for him.”
Rudy’s biggest win was in the Group Two Villiers Stakes at Randwick in December 14 which earned him a start in the Doncaster Mile the following autumn.
“Rudy really has been great for not just his owners and me, but for all of Queensland. He is now seven but he won as a two-year-old and has won every season since then,” Page said.
“He has been a horse that all of Queensland has been able to support. He is Queensland bred, owned and trained.”
Page had a good day at the Gold Coast on Saturday with Powerful Saga winning and Brinkmanship and Lady McCabe both finishing second.
