Rubisaki continues winning run in PJ Bell

Talented filly Rubisaki has continued her unbeaten season with a dominant display in the PJ Bell Stakes at Randwick.

Trained in Victoria by Patrick Payne, a decision was made earlier this week to send Rubiaski north to contest Saturday’s Group Three PJ Bell (1200m) for three-year-old fillies and she was sent out the $2.70 favourite in the final race on day one of The Championships.

Rubiaski was worse than midfield on the inside coming to the home turn but she was travelling sweetly under Nash Rawiller and once a gap appeared she burst through between runners in the straight.

Showing the turn of foot that has served her well in her career, Rubisaki surged away in the final 150m to beat Wayupinthesky by 1-1/2-lengths, with Akari another three-quarters of a length away third.

It took the promising filly’s overall record to seven wins and two seconds from nine starts. She is unbeaten in five starts this season.

Her winning sequence this season has included the $1 million Inglis Three-Year-Old Sprint at Warwick Farm in February and the Group Two Kewney Stakes at Flemington last month.

Rawiller was riding Rubisaki for the first time and he was suitably impressed, labelling her “a little star”.

“It was a pretty soft win,” Rawiller said.

“She steamed through them there and had the race won a long way out.

“I was able to pretty much shut her down late. It was impressive.”
