Roos smash Demons with six-goal final quarter in AFL Round 2

North Melbourne pulled off one of the most stunning wins in the 2025 AFL season on Sunday afternoon, dismantling Melbourne with a six-goal blitz in just over six minutes to seal a 59-point win at Marvel Stadium.

The Roos led for most of the day but looked set for a nervy finish as Melbourne trimmed the margin to three goals at the final change.

With the roof closed and the pressure mounting, North exploded out of the blocks in the last quarter, piling on six unanswered goals in a breathtaking 6:16 stretch that sent the Marvel crowd into raptures and left the Demons shell-shocked.

It was the kind of performance that fans have waited years for. Eleven individual goal-kickers put the stamp on a complete team display, with Cam Zurhaar (four goals), Harry Sheezel, Nick Larkey, and Paul Curtis (three each) leading the charge.

Former Eagle Jack Darling also chipped in with two majors, while No.3 draft pick Colby McKercher broke through for his first AFL goal in a lively outing.

North’s dominance around the contest and speed in transition overwhelmed The Dee’s, who had no answers once the avalanche began.

Christian Petracca and Clayton Oliver battled hard in the middle, while Kade Chandler finished with three goals up forward. But the Dees were second to the ball and outworked when it mattered most.

After back-to-back losses to open the season, pressure is mounting on Simon Goodwin’s side. Meanwhile, North Melbourne fans are daring to believe in the club’s rebuild under Alastair Clarkson, with this win arguably their best since the 2014 elimination final.

The Kangaroos (1-1) will look to build on the momentum when they face the Crows next week, while Melbourne (0-2) needs a swift turnaround ahead of a tough clash with the Suns.
