Richmond Tigers v Melbourne Demons AFL match preview
Richmond clash with Melbourne at the MCG in a match that has major implications for the shape of the AFL top eight, on Sunday afternoon.
The Tigers are outsiders for this clash with AFL betting sites, priced at $2.50, while the Demons are well-backed at $1.54.
On Saturday, the Richmond took on Hawthorn at the MCG, winning a thrilling contest by one-point. After struggling for most of the day, the Tigers trailed by as much as 36 points late in the third quarter. However, they came home strong, kicking the last six goals of the match to overrun the Hawks in the end.
This win means that the Tigers sit outside the eight by percentage and are now a chance of playing finals, under caretaker coach Andrew McQualter. Having won their last three, they will be looking to break into the finals positions by continuing their good form.
The Demons also played at the MCG as they welcomed the Adelaide Crows, winning by four points in a high scoring affair. With Melbourne in control of the game for three quarters, the Crows kicked seven goals to three in the last quarter but ultimately fell short of an incredible comeback.
With a comfortable margin of two games and percentage keeping them in the top four, the Demons will be hoping that teams ahead of them on the ladder slip up if they are to gain any positions in the final weeks.
With no fresh injuries, the Tigers receive a boost with Jayden Short returning from a hamstring injury.
Key defender Harrison Petty is expected to return for the Demons and they have lost patience with struggling key forward Ben Brown, who has been omitted. Midfielder Tom Sparrow will also miss due to injury.

Richmond v Melbourne AFL betting strategy
With both sides coming in on a three-match winning streak, there is no clear standout form-wise. But recent history favours the Demons, who have won their last three matches between the two sides.
With the Tigers missing co-captain Toby Nankervis, there is a big responsibility on Ivan Soldo to limit the impact of Melbourne ruckman Max Gawn, who has been in terrific form.
Based off the form they have shown throughout the season so far, we like the Demons, who come in as favourites at $1.56 with PlayUp.
Playing primarily as a midfielder throughout the season so far, Christian Petracca has shown in recent weeks how potent he can be playing across half-forward. Before going goalless last game, Petracca had scored four goals in back-to-back weeks. At $1.84 with top AFL bookmakers, we think he shows great value for two or more goals this weekend.
A consistent performer for the Tigers each week, Dion Prestia is an extremely dependable member of their midfield rotation. Leading the way with 28 disposals last week against the Hawks, the 30-year-old is a contested beast. Only collecting less than 20 disposals twice this season, Prestia is always in the game. Attending the second most centre bounces in the Tigers midfield each week, we like Prestia to collect 25 or more disposals at $1.96 with top AFL bookmakers.
Richmond v Melbourne key matchup: Taranto v Viney

One of the recruits of the season, Tim Taranto has been in the Tigers best almost every week. Known for gathering a lot of the ball, Taranto showed another area of his game against the Hawks, kicking three goals. If the Tigers are going to cause an upset, Tim Taranto will be at the centre of it, working both ways and hitting the scoreboard.
With Clayton Oliver’s return date uncertain, Jack Viney has taken the responsibility to win the contested ball for the Demons. A tough player, the 29-year-old also leads the Demons for tackles this season, showcasing his defensive work in the contest. Averaging a goal every two games, Viney also has the ability to break through 50 and hit the scoreboard.
