Richmond Tigers v Fremantle Dockers Round 5 preview

Richmond and Fremantle will open Sunday’s AFL Gather Round schedule with an early clash at Barossa Park in the Adelaide Hills.

Richmond were thoroughly outplayed by Brisbane last week and continue to battle a lengthy injury list. However, a key positive last week was their attacking output, with the Tigers posting 90 points — their highest score of the 2025 AFL season.

The Tigers’ midfield remains under pressure, and the absence of Dion Prestia continues to hurt their balance.

Fremantle, on the other hand, are building strong momentum. After starting the season 0–2, they’ve clawed their way back to 2–2 following a gritty win over the Bulldogs last Sunday.

With Caleb Serong and Andrew Brayshaw dominating the midfield and multiple forward options firing, Justin Longmuir’s side is shaping up as a genuine top-eight contender.

Top AFL betting sites have Fremantle as clear favourites, and at almost full health, they’ll be hard to stop on Sunday morning.

Tigers v Dockers R5 team news

Richmond have left out Rising Star contender Sam Lalor due to hip soreness, while Harry Armstrong is also missing after hurting his hamstring in training during the week.

In better news for the Tigers, Maurice Rioli and Hugo Ralphsmith both return to the side, while first-year forward Jonty Faull is set to make his AFL debut. While Noah Balta was available for selection, he remains under club scrutiny following his recent court case.

Fremantle regain key players this week, with Sean Darcy, Hayden Young, and Sam Switkowski all cleared to return after overcoming injuries.

However, it’s not all good news for the Dockers, with Luke Jackson (hamstring), Nathan O’Driscoll (ankle) and Corey Wagner (calf) ruled out after picking up injuries in last week’s win over the Bulldogs.

Richmond v Fremantle predictions

Fremantle’s strong form and dominance through the midfield make them tough to tip against. Caleb Serong has recorded 35 or more disposals in back-to-back games and has reached as many as 38 in previous clashes with Richmond, so the $2.35 with Picklebet is great value for him to hit that mark again.

For the Tigers, Jayden Short remains a high-volume rebounder. He’s recorded 25 or more touches in three of his last five games, so lock him in at $2.60 with online bookmakers to reach that number once more.

If you’re after value, Hayden Young is an interesting goalkicking option. He’s kicked two goals in each of his last two games against Richmond and is worth a look at $4.20 with Neds to do it again.
