Relief package for NSW country trainers
Racing NSW have announced a $500,000 relief package for trainers and owners affected by recent race meeting cancellations.
There have been about 400 horses trained in the state’s southern districts and central-west regions denied a start in at least one of the 13 cancelled meetings over the past six weeks because of wet weather and storm damage.
“The incredibly high rate of abandonments has affected trainers in particular, who have to pay their staff and continue running costs,” Racing NSW chief executive Peter V’landys said.
Horses have also missed trackwork because of damaged or closed training facilities and additional funding will be made available for repairs.
“Racing NSW is conscious of the extra financial burden this causes and will assist with funding to replace or replenish supplies and equipment,” V’landys said.
