Redcliffe Dolphins player found dead at Spanish nightclub

Liam Hampson Found Dead In barcelona
Redcliffe Dolphins hooker Liam Hampson has tragically been confirmed dead by Barcelona Police after being reported missing on holiday in Europe. Hampson, 24, had not been seen since 4:30am Tuesday in Sala Apolo nightclub.

Hampson had been travelling Europe with NRL starts and close friends Jordan Riki, Jesse Arthars, AJ Brimson, and his brother Will Brimson. The group had travelled through Ibiza, Germany, the Netherlands, and Italy before heading to Barcelona in Spain.

Hampson’s death is being treated as an accident following desperate pleas from Riki, Brimson, Arthars, family, friends and the whole rugby league community began via social media to try and find him.

Hampson’s sister Tiarna begged those on Instagram: ‘Please please please if you’re travelling in Barcelona, look out for Liam. Praying you’re okay.’
Hampson’s mother also wrote on social media: ‘he is loved by so many and we are trying to think positively’.

Hampson began his Queensland Cup career at the Wynnum-Manly Seagulls where he played from 2019 to 2021 before making the move north to the Redcliffe Dolphins. There, he played 11 games from the interchange bench where he scored four tries and assisted in three more, playing his role in eight wins that took the Dolphins to the grand final where they lost to the Norths Devils.

The Dolphins are still in the process of building their 30 man squad as they prepare to enter the NRL in the 2023 season with Hampson yet to have secured a place in the NRL squad.

Dolphins recruitment boss Peter O’Sullivan was quoted as saying Hampson was a ‘really nice young kid’ and said he was shocked by the news.

Hampson’s tragic death will rock the rugby league world. While further details are yet to be revealed, the incident is one of the first of its kind.
