Raiders vs Roosters Rd 12 match preview
Super Saturday football for round 12 of the 2024 NRL Premiership kicks off in the nation’s capital with the resurgent Canberra Raiders hosting the Sydney Roosters at GIO Stadium.
The Raiders have risen to sixth on the NRL ladder following tight wins over the Manly Sea Eagles and Canterbury Bulldogs. A win this weekend in a rematch of the 2019 NRL Grand Final could elevate them as high as third in the standings.
The Sydney Roosters suffered an eight-point loss at the hands of the Sharks last weekend, having belted the Warriors, Broncos and Dragons in the weeks prior. Sitting in the seventh spot on the ladder, a loss could put them at risk of falling outside the top eight.
Raiders coach Ricky Stuart will be without veteran prop Josh Papali’i (suspension). Emre Guler will start in the front row, with Peter Hola named for his first game at the top level this season.
The Roosters have lost Connor Watson to a throat injury, so Sandon Smith will come off the bench, while Joseph Manu will return in the centres with Fetalaiga Pauga dropping back to the reserves. Coach Trent Robinson has made further changes with Naufahu Whyte being named at lock, pushing Victor Radley to the second row and Nat Butcher out of the starting side.

Canberra Raiders v Sydney Roosters betting predictions
The Raiders have won three of their last five matches against the Roosters. However, Sydney have covered the line in six of their last seven matches following a loss, while the favourite has won each of Canberra’s last seven matches at GIO Stadium. Despite the grit and determination of this Raiders outfit, the star power of the Roosters could push the margin beyond 13 points, which is paying +105 with Neds.
Sydney have been on a scoring frenzy of late, posting 30 or more points in four consecutive games. They have also conceded at least 18 points in each of those contests. Add in that three of Canberra’s four losses this year have gone over 40 total points, and the 43.5 line looks short (-111.11).
Raiders forward Hudson Young will be attacking Victor Radley, who has spent most of his career defending in the middle third of the field. Young’s form of late has been brilliant, scoring four tries in his last six games — including a double last weekend. If points are to come from anywhere for the Raiders, it will be through a try to Young (+230).
