Friday night football kicks off in the nation’s capital with the Canberra Raiders hosting the North Queensland Cowboys for round 15 of the NRL Premiership.

The Raiders went into the round 14 bye with a one-point win over the Dolphins, having been belted by the Roosters a week earlier. Now in fifth position, the home side has a chance to enter the top four on the NRL ladder.

On the other hand, the Cowboys will be looking to bounce back from a 30-point hammering at the hands of the Warriors last weekend. Another loss in Canberra puts them at risk of dropping into the bottom four.

Raiders coach Ricky Stuart has named New South Wales representative Hudson Young to return in the second row, pushing Ata Mariota back to the bench and Simi Sasagi to the reserves. Otherwise, the line-up is unchanged.

Cowboys coach Todd Payten welcomes back Origin stars Murray Taulagi and Reece Robson, with Jeremiah Nanai starting in the second row and Jordan McLean returning at prop. Sam McIntyre, Thomas Mikaele, Kulikefu Finefeuiaki and Griffin Neame will all come off the bench, with Braidon Burns, Harrison Edwards and Jaxon Purdue dropping to the reserves.

Raiders v Cowboys predictions

The Cowboys have won four of their last five games against the Raiders, with one of those wins being at this ground and three coming by narrow margins. The last three wins for the Queensland-based side have all come as underdogs. There is great value on offer with Neds for the Cowboys to win by 1-12 points ($3.40).

There have been at least 40 points scored in each of the Raiders’ last five games, while three of the Cowboys’ last five have had at least 50 points. With cool, dry conditions on the forecast, expect more than 49.5 total match points to be scored ($1.90).

Jordan Rapana has been a saviour for the Raiders at fullback this season, although he’s failed to score a try since round two. However, he has scored at least one try in four of his last six appearances against North Queensland, and the Kiwi veteran is a great value play to return to the in-goal area this weekend ($2.80).
