Rabbitohs v Roosters NRL R27 match preview
Vying for a spot in the NRL finals, it’s a win-or-go-home clash between traditional rivals on Friday night as the South Sydney Rabbitohs host the Sydney Roosters at Accor Stadium.
Before their bye last weekend, the Rabbitohs went down to the Newcastle Knights by 19 points. Down 12-0 at half-time, Souths were never in the contest and didn’t make up any ground after the break.
The result leaves the Rabbitohs fighting for survival in 2023. With Souths sitting in eighth spot, tied on points with the Roosters, the winner this weekend will likely secure a finals position.
The Roosters hosted the bottom-placed Wests Tigers last weekend, winning comfortably by 32 points. After going down early, the Tricolours never looked back, scoring the remaining five tries as they kept their season alive.
After sitting as low as 14th in round 22, the Roosters have now climbed into the finals picture. To get there, they need to win this game and hope either the Raiders or Cowboys lose.
With major suspensions affecting both sides, Souths will be without star fullback Latrell Mitchell after he was given a one-match suspension following the loss to Newcastle. Blake Taaffe will take his place.
The Roosters will be missing enforcer Jared Waerea-Hargreaves after his season was declared over due to suspension. However, skipper James Tedesco returns to take his spot at fullback, while Angus Crichton is named on the bench.

Rabbitohs v Roosters NRL R27 betting predictions
Having won their last four games, the Roosters are one of the NRL’s best-performing teams. The Rabbitohs’ form line shows the opposite, winning just two of their last six matches. With those numbers and the absence of the Bunnies’ star fullback, we are backing the Roosters as $2.02 underdogs with Unibet.
With five tries in the last four weeks, Joseph-Aukuso Suaalii has been a key proponent of the Roosters’ late-season win streak. Playing on the wing, the 20-year-old is always a threat to get over, with star centre Joseph Manu drawing players in to give Suaalii opportunities to score. We like him to get over again as an anytime tryscorer at $2.15 with Palmerbet.
Despite their divergent form lines, both sides have gone over the total points line only once in their last five matches. The last three encounters between these sides have also gone under that line. Back this one to go under 43.5 points at $1.90 with top NRL bookmakers.
Key matchup: Alex Johnston v Daniel Tupou

Winger | Position | Winger |

Rabbitohs winger Alex Johnston has continued to score plenty of tries in 2023. With the chance to lead the NRL for tries once again this season, his priority will be ensuring he can hit the scoreboard once again as a match winner this Friday night.
Despite having a down season, Daniel Tupou is still leading the Roosters for tries this season. A constant aerial threat, Tupou will have plenty of opportunities against smaller opponents. Look for him to do plenty of work in the early downs as well, as he is always a chance for a line break.
