South Sydney will attempt to continue rebuilding their 2024 NRL season when they take on the North Queensland Cowboys at Suncorp Stadium on Saturday.

The Rabbitohs have lost their last five matches, including dismal losses to the Warriors, Storm, and Panthers. They are last on the NRL ladder, but if the Titans lose to the Knights, Souths could ascend to 16th position.

The Cowboys are in 12th place on the ladder having lost their last five games, including defeats to the Titans and Dolphins. A win against the Rabbitohs will ensure they are not fighting to avoid the bottom four on the ladder.

Cowboys coach Todd Payten will be without winger Semi Valemei (ankle) but welcomes back international Murray Taulagi from a hamstring injury in an otherwise unchanged line-up.

Rabbitohs interim coach Ben Hornby welcomes back try-scoring sensation Alex Johnston on the wing, along with Jacob Gagai. Michael Chee Kam has been left out of the side, with Izaac Tu’itupou Thompson shifting into the centres. Taane Milne returns from suspension on the bench in place of Matthew French.
